Interfaith Harmony Week is an annual event, which was iniciated by United
Nations in 2011
is observed
during the first week of February.
Tro
i Harmoni (Belief in harmony) is the Danish interfaith
organisation that is coordinating the events that will be taking place in
Copenhagen. During the following week we will get
the opportunity to welcome and be welcomed by members of other
faiths.
Sunday 2nd
February at 4 P.M.
There will be a service at
Helligåndskirke (Church of the Holy Spirit) in Strøget (walking
street). The Bishop of Copenhagen, Peter Skov-Jakobsen will give a
sermon and also invite guests to present greetings and light candles
in accordance with their own traditions and beliefs.
Tuesday 4th
February 6 – 8 pm.
Den Store Moske, Vingelodden 1,
København N. Safet Bektovic, a Muslim university teacher,
will talk about significant parallels between the philosophy of Søren
Kirkegaard and Sufi-Islamic philosophy.
Thursday 6th
February 7 – 9 p.m.
Verdenskurltur Centret, Nørre Alle 7,
Nørrebro. How do people of different faiths pray? Ani Tenzin a
Buddhist nun, Jair Melchior a Jewish rabbi, Mia Rahr Jacobsen a
Christian street-minister and Naveed Baig a Muslim imam will talk
about their traditions and customs with regard to praying.
Global chain of light.
''The lamps are different, but the
light is the same.''
Belief in Harmony is going to arrange a
virtual global chain of lights and they hope that both individuals and
congregations all over the world will light a candle for respect,
openness and peaceful coexistence between people of different faiths.
So far congregations and peace-groups from, for example: Lebanon, Kenya, Palestine, South Carolina and
France have signed up for the event.
School project.
Belief in Harmoni is starting a
one-year dialogue-project that will include 8th grade
pupils from three schools: Jewish, Muslim and Christian.
